While Helton did not provide a specific date, he said NASCAR was hoping that "within the next two or three races" it would be time to put the spoilers back on the cars. That timeline coincides with the March 28th race at Martinsville, Va. During the development of the Car of Tomorrow, it was said that the wing was chosen for the Car of Tomorrow design because it was aesthetically pleasing. With a younger generation being brought up on movies like Fast & the Furious and fast, foreign cars with large wings, the idea was to appeal to the new generation of NASCAR fans. The return to the spoiler, however, will serve more of a purpose and attempt to go back to the more traditional competition NASCAR has been known for. This new change coupled with the double-file restart rule, the newy modified green-white-check- ered rule and NASCAR's decision to back off on rough driving penalties ideally will get NASCAR back to it's classic racing days and make the sport even more exciting.
